Modular sectional or a fixed sofa - what's the difference?

Most sectionals in the range are genuinely modular - their own listings describe armchairs, a loveseat or couch, and ottomans as separate pieces that reconfigure into an L, a U or a straight line. Two pieces are not: a single fixed 3-seat sofa, and a 3-piece set whose own listing describes one couch, an ottoman and a table rather than swappable sections. Each product page says which it is.

Will a set actually fit my patio?

That depends on the layout, not just the piece count - a straight line arrangement needs a longer, narrower footprint than the same set folded into an L or a U.
